About the Role:
As part of the R&D team, you will design, build, and test your creations. You can expect to do many of the following:
● Work with the R&D team to understand product intent, specifications, and vision, and maintain them throughout the entire product design cycle ● Manage collaborative and personal projects to ensure success and team alignment ● Develop product needs and requirements based on market research, literature reviews, and consumer feedback ● Break out of traditional engineering to create innovative solutions to complex problems ● Create proof-of-concept, functional, and manufacturing prototypes ● Develop testing and validation plans, as well as design and build any necessary equipment to execute said plans ● Conduct full product, component, and material testing to ensure technical efficacy and validate the satisfaction of design requirements ● Through all forms of testing, compile results and work with Design and Development to identify and prioritize actionable improvements ● Consider manufacturing throughout all design stages and work with Development to implement completed concepts in a manufacturing environment ● Identifying necessary manufacturing changes and working with Development to improve manufacturing procedures ● Collect and analyze user feedback from customers, preparing and implementing required design recommendations
● 3+ years of industry experience in product design and development ● An Engineering (Mechanical, Biomedical, Engineering Physics), industrial design, or equivalent degree ● Proficient in prototyping tools including traditional machining as well as rapid techniques ● Deep understanding of mechanical design and design for manufacturing ● Ability to justify design decisions with calculations, analysis, and written documentation ● Proficient in the use of 3D CAD software ● Experience with microcontrollers (Arduino, etc.) and electrical systems is an asset ● Experience coding is an asset (C++, Python, MATLAB) ● Understanding biomechanics is an asset ● Understanding technical textiles and apparel construction methods is an asset ● Enthusiasm for lifelong learning, problem-solving, and stepping out of your comfort zone ● Strong interpersonal skills to work well within a collaborative team environment ● Awesomeness.
